About this deal

her three love interests are all bitches i genuinely don’t understand what’s going through their minds bc they bullied her since she joined the school bc she’s the daughter of a guy who helped killed one of their dads which i would’ve get if she was super defensive over her dad but the girl hates him and she’s going through it bc she can’t even talk and her mom died and they’re just making it worse. Bea did a good job with the first part to the duet series in not only bringing the characters to life, given all that we learn about each of them.

The story alternated between their past and present-day, allowing the reader absolute insight into the twisted relationship these four share. I understand the cause of anger but not the intensity or why once they knew Cyn, their need to continue hurting her.The characters are well developed and scenes referenced from other books in the saga fit right into place without inconsistencies. As well as displaying angsty-ness with tensions running high in certain events and situations they were faced with. Each of the guys are so different but yet the same as in none of them will admit how they feel about Cyn especially Carrick who treats her like she’s his biggest enemy, but you can see through the cracks in his armour and you know how he really feels for her . To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

They studied in the same board school for “damaged” kids, and their interactions back then were a mix of the 3 boys making the girl’s life a living hell, trying at all costs to make her talk (or moan, or scream), and she snogging one of them. I was expecting more of childhood story of Deana-dhe which would have been helpful to understand what led them to be cruel. Another thing I like about this series and the world that Bea has created is that it's contemporary with a touch of paranormal/magic which I never see! I am loving these story's from this author i have been waiting patiently to read about the Deana-Dhe after meeting them in The Masks books, it was so worth the wait as i devoured this first book and after that ending i need the next book like STAT! I love the ambience of this book, it’s very British, with all the grey skies, rain, secluded island and cold beach. Her stubborn strength, her mysterious powers, and her inherent goodness attracted the boys' attention. I love the tinctures she makes and how she can affect the guys so easily but has so much restraint its not even funny.

This story almost feels like a fairy tale – a mute girl with a tragic past, and 3 criminal guys with fearsome reputations who bring her to their remote home and give her a task. And her muteness adds an interesting layer to her connection to the men, empowering her allure and protecting her secrets.

I was always intrigued by Arden, Lorcan, and Carrick when we met them in 2 other stories in this interconnected world. It’s what allowed Arden, Carrick and Lorcan to stand on their own very loud and clearly, that even without even seeing their name you would be able to tell whose chapter you were reading.

Like Cyn, his character had nice moments, but because of how he almost never stood up for Cyn knowing that he himself knew how wrong it was what Carrick and Arden were doing made his good moments easy to forget. This was another huge hit for me from Bea Paige and I can’t wait for book 2 and watching heads roll as they work hand in hand with the Masks to save Cyn. I mention this in every review but idc, Bea's writing is beautiful, she is one of the few authors whose writing can captivate me so thoroughly with every book of hers I read! Seeing as he was my favourite it had me wishing their would’ve been a few more chapters from him, not only because he didn’t see to get as many as the others. I thought it was a bit slow at times as it repeated the inner thoughts of the men but it picked up momentum towards the end. Moreover, Deana-dhe were supposed to be 'scariest', and I was definitely disappointed in that regards. and the plot was so dumb they’re using her debt to them to make this drug from them to sell and she can be free after and they don’t know whether to trust her which i’m like why u letting her make u this drug she can screw u over. I have become quite a fan of her after reading The Dancer and The Masks duet and now, finally learning about Cyn’s past who was an enthralling character in the that duet has been an exquisite experience. When a memory was mentioned in the present, Bea would lead us through memory lane to learn the back history within the next chapter. It is a slow burn but their chemistry is so electric and I knew from chapter 6 that I would cry from this book and the angst would be so good.
